Live Surgery Exhibition-cum-Conference for Orthopaedic Surgeons

Pusat Perubatan Ar-Ridzuan held a live surgery exhibition-cum-conference for orthopaedic surgeons from around the country last weekend. Directing and hosting the event was Dr Loh Choong Sing, an orthopaedic surgeon with 19 years experience in the practice of arthroplasty. The gathering was arranged with the concept that good ideas and experience should be shared amongst the orthopaedic community for the growth of the speciality.

The occasion featured a total of two Top Hip Replacement surgeries and 3 Total Knee Replacement surgeries over a period of two days. Some 60 Malaysian orthopaedic surgeons were able to observe first-hand the procedures and learn from Dr Loh on how to successfully conduct these particular major surgeries; everything from specific approaches to instrumenting protocols to cementing techniques and implanting procedures in full detail.

Also included in the event were various lectures, undertaken at the conference hall, between and during the surgeries. This part of the conference was conducted by guest surgeon, Ramsay Sime Darby Subang Jaya Orthopaedic resident, Dr Tai Cheh Chin, also a respected and experienced professional.

On special invitation, honourary guest speaker, Dato’ Dr Suresh Chopra, who has decades of arthroplasty experience shared his expertise on Hip replacements. Finally, an additional special guest speaker, Mr Peter Goodman from OrthAlign Inc. was on hand to give a talk on the latest developments in computer navigated Total Knee and Total hip surgeries, which will be available to Malaysian medical practitioners in the near future.
