If I were to use a single word to describe the works that have been done to the Square at the Ipoh Railway Station, it would be ‘Unique’. Upgraded in conjunction with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Ipoh Town Hall, the Square now boasts seven different ‘gardens’ in one huge garden.
The seven different garden concepts are: Tropical, English, Wedding, Fantasy, Partition, Nature and Traditional. What is even more interesting is that the upgrading works, which began on May 1 to May 15, 2016, were done by the Ipoh City Council Landscape Department, using recyclables and plants obtained from the department itself.
By the way, the team involved comprised the same members who represented Perak state in the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture & Agrotourism Show (MAHA) 2012. Perak emerged second place in the Landscape Category.
Ipoh City Mayor Dato’ Zamri Man was also seen giving the garden his finishing touch. According to the Mayor, the upgraded Square now provides an opportunity for families to come and enjoy a beautiful garden with historic buildings of the Ipoh Railway Station and the Ipoh Town Hall as backdrop.
He added, “Tourists from Hong Kong, the Netherlands and Australia who arrived in Ipoh recently were very impressed with the new garden. I am confident that this Square will be a new attraction for tourists as we usher in Visit Perak Year 2017.”
