Happy Mid-Autumn Festival To You
Today is the 15th day of the eighth moon on the Chinese Lunar calendar which means it’s Mid-Autumn Festival. Strangely, Malaysians know the day as “Mooncake Festival”. As far as I know, there is no major event in Ipoh held to mark this occasion. Did you know that the moon is supposed to be the roundest, fullest and brightest tonight, of the entire year?
If I was in KL, I would have attended the 1Malaysia Lantern Festval 2010 held last evening at Wisma MCA in KL where I understand that a gigantic mooncake, measuring 0.9m tall and 1.2m wide that could feed 1200 people, was unveiled. The cost of the giant mooncake was estimated at MYR3500.
Since there was no public celebration to mark the auspicious day in Ipoh, I just stayed home and stuffed myself with mooncakes, groundnuts, yam and those hard, black horny thingy called “ling kok” in Cantonese. What about you? Did you make offerings to the Moon Goddess?
