citizenM hotel Rotterdam
Stepping into citizenM hotel in Rotterdam is like returning home. Well, that is, if home is set up so stylishly and cosily!
This new concept boutique hotel with properties also in Amsterdam in the Netherlands as well as in Glasgow, London, New York and Paris, offers affordable luxury accommodation for the Mobile Citizen, where its name is derived from.
Located in the heart of Rotterdam, this non-smoking citizenM hotel with 151 rooms is at Oude Haven, within walking distance from Rotterdam Blaak Train and Metro Station. It’s near Rotterdam’s iconic cube houses.
From my photos here, you can see that although this is a hotel, there are different sections that are set up to look more like a living room, dining room, work room and entertainment room, rather than a public building.
Additionally, the hotel is well decorated with many small mementos, as though they are part of a traveller’s collection, which they probably are.
Another thing that struck me was the shelves and shelves of books! Guests are free to pick up any book to read, and even take it home with them but if they do so, they are required to replace the book with another title. I think this is absolutely cool, and exactly what a book lover would do.
You may notice that the guest rooms here make Tune Hotels look spacious but it’s actually sufficient for light travellers. Note the XL king size bed wedged between two walls with a wall-to-wall window.
Another awesome thing is that all controls are via a computer tablet. There’s movies-on-demand and guests can even change the colour of the light in the bathroom.
Oddly enough, the vanity counter-cum-washbasin is outside of the bathroom. This could be a little awkward for those sharing the room.
As a solo traveller, I actually don’t mind it. What do you think of the layout of this room?
