Celebrating World Prematurity Day 2020 in Ipoh
Showing solidarity with Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, the Ipoh City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh – MBI) lighted up the newly renovated Sultan Yussuf Roundabout and Ipoh Town Hall in purple from 8pm until midnight yesterday, in conjunction with World Prematurity Day 2020, a day observed annually on 17th November, since 2009.

Other notable landmarks around the world that previously joined in celebration included New York’s Empire State Building and KL Tower in Kuala Lumpur.

According to Ipoh City Mayor YBhg. Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin, the purple lighting event was to show support for premature babies in the city. These babies, also known as preemies, were born at least three weeks before their estimated due date.
That’s really thoughtful and quite symbolic.
