7,000 Join Ipoh Car-Free Day
What a wonderful morning it was, with the co-operation of the weather, for the 7,000 people who came from Ipoh and nearby areas to participate in the 45th edition of Ipoh Car-Free Day.
Held along Jalan Raja Dihilir, Ipoh from 7am until 10am, this Ipoh Car-Free Day was one of the most vibrant, with 80 tents set up.
The theme was International Day of Climate Action, a day observed globally on 24th October.
In addition to achieving the objective of a low carbon city, the Ipoh Car-Free Day programme aims to raise the Index of Happiness among the city folk by fostering awareness on the environment, health, safety, history and heritage of Ipoh.
The monthly programme is also designed to achieve the following goals:
i. Cities 2030 – Cities for All
ii. Leave No One Behind
iii. Our Own Town
iv. Our City Our Responsibility
Government agencies and non-governmental organisations joined hands to make Ipoh Car-Free Day a success, with activities lined up to keep visitors educated and entertained on various aspects.
Among them were:
i. Ipoh Fun Run @ Ipoh Car Free Day organised by KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hostpital, which attracted some 1000 participants. It was flagged off by YAB Menteri Besar Perak Dato’ Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, accompanied by Ipoh City Mayor Dato’ Ahmad Suaidi bin Abdul Rahim and Council Secretary Encik Mohd. Zakuan Zakaria;
ii. Exercise For Gold Citizens in conjunction with Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB)’s 2019 Gold Citizens Day;
iii. The Superheroes Walk by Adventure 360.
Additional activities provided were aerobics by Puspanita, Balance Bike Training, ISMA archery, Hygiene Awareness Campaign, Kohijau, Weight Loss by Herbalife, Perak State Public Library, Tun Razak Library and Giant Balloon Games.
