22nd SAS Cup 2013: Day 4: Match 3: Malaysia (2) – Pakistan (2)
It was once again full house at Stadium Azlan Shah during Malaysia’s match against Pakistan on Day 4 of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2013.
The Malaysian hockey boys had been psyched out to win every game they play, but Pakistan put up a good performance and did not yield.
Malaysia enjoyed a short lead but with less than nine minutes on the clock, Pakistan scored a second goal by Ali Shan, and drew level, much to the delight of the small number of Pakistani fans in the stadium.
Malaysian coach Paul Revington acknowledged that despite the results, this was one of the strongest games played by Malaysia. Captain Shahrun Nabil blamed the team’s lapses in concentration, and promised to make amends in the next game.
Pakistan team manager Akhtar Rasool Chaudhary said this was one of the best games in the tournament thus far; a very exciting match. Both teams were fast but Malaysia had the home ground advantage. Despite this, the young Pakistan team did not give in to crowd pressure.
Pakistan, already out of contention, faces Korea on Saturday while Malaysia will compete with India.
Final score was Malaysia 2, Pakistan 2. View (and buy) high quality photos of this match at Sports Media Group Australia.
