22nd SAS Cup 2013: Day 2: Match 1: Australia (6) – Pakistan (0)
On Day 2, Australia sent out a strong message to their opponents at the 22nd Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2013 when they trounced Pakistan 6 to nil.
Pakistan seemed helpless in their defence at times, but their weakness was the fact that the players hogged the ball for too long when they should pass it to other positions. There is no room for seeking self-glory when it comes to team sports.
Pakistan team manager-cum-coach Akhtar Rasool Chaudhary blamed the defeat on the humidity, which has always been an issue that foreign players have to deal with. Moreover, Pakistan has four new players playing in an international tournament for the first time. Actually, Pakistan isn’t the only team who has chosen to use this platform to expose their batch of young blood.
Ric Charlesworth believed that his team displayed the same consistency as their first game, which they lost to India 3 – 4. In fact, he believed the team played better then, although the number of goals doesn’t tell. I guess luck came into play in Australia’s favour this game. The balls is, after all, round.
Australia meets Malaysia on Tuesday. It should be an interesting match, as according to Ric, Malaysia is one of the more difficult teams to play because of their experience.
Final score was Australia 6, Pakistan 0. View (and buy) high quality photos of this match at Sports Media Group Australia.
