From a short chat with one of the handlers, Vasu, we found out that Lot 2, a progeny of Dolphin Street, the resident stud of the Farm, was the crowd favourite and expected to fetch a really high bid. Her half-sister, Beautiful Choice, was crowned the 2011 Malaysian Bred Horse of the Year. Lot 2 fetched RM70,000 but she wasn’t the highest priced horse. The honour went to Lot 10, for RM85,000. The bid was won by Robyn Brogan, an assistant trainer from Kuala Lumpur, who received a token of appreciation from Stud Manager, Ray Knight.
The 2012 National Premier Sale grossed RM960,000 from 34 lots, with an average of RM28,235.30 per lot. I feel that horse racing is still very much an elite sport in Malaysia. What do you think?
