Mutts & Mittens (M&M) 7th Annual Charity Dinner 2023
The Super HLT Restaurant was packed to the brim on Sunday evening to support the 7th annual charity dinner of Mutts & Mittens (M&M), a non-profit animal rescue organisation in Ipoh.
Leading the list of guests of honour was Perak State Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker YB Jenny Choy, who presented a mock cheque of RM10000 to Mutts & Mittens President Chong Choon Kit.
The fundraiser brought together pet owners, non-governmental organisations, animal rescuers, supporters, and volunteers to help shoulder the responsibility of animal welfare in and around Ipoh. There are currently 300 dogs and cats under the care of M&M, many of whom are looking for their furever home.
While M&M previously had an animal shelter in Menglembu, they were forced to move to a temporary location at short notice due to land development. With this change, M&M and their charges are making do with limited space, which is also at risk of flooding every time it rains.
For now, a piece of land has been earmarked for their animal shelter. With the charity dinner event, the organisers have aimed to raise RM500K for setting up the shelter, including expenses for cages and fencing.
In addition to the sale of tables for the dinner function, M&M ambassador El Lye donated RM4888; RM2000 came from newly-appointed M&M ambassador Koe Yeet, and RM3000 from Mr. Ron Tan, besides passing the hat around.
Meanwhile, an anonymous donor pledged RM5,000 for guest of honour Datin Janet Yeoh, mother of Ipoh-born Hollywood icon Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Michelle Yeoh, to sing a song. The octogenarian chose her favourite number, ‘Shanghai Bund’ (上海灘), to the delight of guests.

Four pieces of art, plus a bottle of brandy donated by animal lovers, were also put up for auction.
An art piece of a peacock was won by Mr. Brandon for RM1200, while a diamond painting was won by Mr. Jason for RM2265. The third piece, an elephant diamond art, was won at a top bid of RM7000 by a guest who requested anonymity. Mr. Nilson Pan, Waikiki Travel Sdn. Bhd. company director, successfully won the bottle of Martell Cordon Bleu at RM9199.
During the event, a Certificate of Appointment was officially presented to Dato’ G. Manjit Singh Gill, as the Honorary Legal Adviser of Mutts & Mittens, and to local access Koe Yeet as an M&M ambassador.
The evening of good food, entertainment, and camaraderie was enlivened by the musical performance of Kinta Valley Wind Orchestra (KVWO). View the full photo album of Mutts & Mittens (M&M) 7th Annual Charity Dinner 2023 on our official Facebook Page by clicking HERE.
