ISPCA 39th Annual Charity Dinner 2024: Utopia of Paw
The Ipoh Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) continues to face arduous challenges in its mission, even after almost forty years since its establishment.

With an alarming average of one animal welfare case needing attention every hour, the burden of caring for these vulnerable creatures is a collective responsibility that extends beyond the organisation itself, thus calling for involvement from the community.

Last evening, ISPCA hosted its 39th-anniversary fundraising dinner with the theme, “Utopia of Paw.” This event brought together generous donors and compassionate supporters who came from far and wide. They contributed to ISPCA’s fundraising efforts aimed at maintaining the shelter and supporting various animal welfare initiatives, including the ongoing TNRM (Trap-Neuter-Release-Manage) programme.

Noteworthy contributions included RM10,000 from Shake & Bake Cafe, RM10,000 from the Prime Minister’s Department (ICU JPM), RM3,800 from Pet @ Home, RM3,000 from the Chairman of the Housing and Local Government Committee, plus RM1,000 each from Dato’ Patrick Ooi and Ms Juliet Chan.

Additionally, Dato’ Sri Desmond Loh generously donated 50 bags of 15kg pet food, underscoring the community’s support for ISPCA’s vital work.

Since the inception of the TNRM programme in 2017, over 10,000 stray dogs in Ipoh have been neutered, averaging about 20 dogs per day at a cost exceeding RM200 per animal. This programme has gained recognition and approval from the Ipoh City Council as a humane and effective method for controlling the stray dog population in the city.

The charity event not only highlighted ISPCA’s enduring commitment to animal welfare in Ipoh and beyond, but also celebrated the unwavering support from local businesses and individuals. Their collective efforts have provided countless abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs and cats with a second chance at life, facilitating their rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming.

Guests enjoyed a delightful meal served by Exquisite Seafood Restaurant in Ipoh, complemented with dazzling stage performances. ISPCA Chairman Ricky Soong Wei Chiew donned a few hats as a drummer, dancer, and martial artiste, showcasing his talent while adding a lively atmosphere to the occasion.
