Ipoh Parade H.O.P.E. Eco Fashionista Costume Contest
With RM850 in cash and prizes up for grabs, thirteen children and their parents put on their creativity caps to participate in the inaugural Ipoh Parade H.O.P.E. Eco Fashionista Costume Contest. H.O.P.E. stands for Helping Our Planet Everyday.

The children, aged from 4 to 11, dressed themselves up in “sustainable clothing” fashioned out of recyclable materials. This activity was held during the eco-month of March.

From garbage bags transformed into ruffled skirts to egg cartons turned into a Viking costume, among other designs, it was a fashion parade like no other. The idea of a waste-free wardrobe was to instil the children’s commitment to the environment by transmuting yesterday’s disposables into tomorrow’s runway trends.

The adorable participants first had to take to the runway in their extraordinary costumes, followed by a self-introduction round, and including a mall tour to interact with shoppers. At the end of two hours, Nur Aufa Izzara Amaneena Bt Muhammad Hafiz was declared the winner. Besides winning the judges’ hearts in a regal recyclable gown and matching headgear, she also recited a poem with the event’s theme.
