Sing My World 6: Every Voice Finds Its Song
When the very first Sing My World took place in 2017, it was envisioned as a small, internal platform for students of Estee Pook Academy to test their voices in front of an audience. Six editions later, it has become a stage where courage is nurtured, where dreams take shape, and where age and experience matter far less than the heart poured into each performance.
This year’s event, Sing My World 6, welcomed 19 brave participants, each one stepping forward voluntarily. Some were seasoned performers, while others were taking their first leap into the unknown.
Defying Age, Defining Passion
In a world that often celebrates youth, Madam Moy Ooi Thye is proof that passion knows no expiry date. One of the most senior students at Estee Pook Academy, she has been taking lessons for nearly three years, walking into the academy with an open heart and a willingness to learn.
Her decision to join Sing My World 6 was not about winning. It was about courage – to step on stage, to be critiqued, and to keep growing. Watching her sing was more than just a performance; it was an act of resilience, a reminder that music is not bound by age but fuelled by spirit.
Her story deeply resonates with Estee Pook’s philosophy: one is never too young or too old to learn singing. Each song is a journey, each note a lesson. For Madam Moy, the stage was not a test but a celebration of her journey so far, inspiring every guest watching in the crowd.
Learning That Never Ends
With over 100 students aged between four and eighty, Ipoh’s premier vocal school, Estee Pook Academy, thrives on diversity. Whether it’s a child taking his/her first lesson or adults rediscovering their voice after decades, the academy ensures everyone finds a place.
Guided by five voice teachers, the academy upholds professional standards such as the Trinity College London Grade 8 syllabus. At Estee Pook Academy, no one truly graduates. This is because singing is a lifelong pursuit. Every song demands new techniques, fresh interpretations, and above all, a willingness to learn.
It is this belief that makes events like Sing My World so meaningful. They are less about competition and more about progress, plus the guts to share that progress in front of an audience.
Beyond Notes and Scores
Performances were judged on quality, rhythm, emotion, diction, and showmanship, with subsidiary awards adding light-hearted encouragement, from Best Voice to Best Costume. But in truth, the essence of Sing My World 6 lies beyond trophies.
Each participant left the stage with something more valuable: experience. Stage fright conquered, confidence built, resilience strengthened. These are lessons that extend far beyond music, shaping students into stronger, braver individuals in every aspect of life.

Closing Words from Founder, Estee Pook
At the close of the evening, founder Estee Pook shared her heartfelt thoughts: “I was touched by the sincerity and dedication shown by every student. Many improved greatly from last year, while new students shone brightly on stage. My heartfelt congratulations go to the winners and to everyone who bravely performed. Thank you to our sponsors, supporters, and especially our instructors, whose hard work made this evening such a success.”
