Year-End Thanksgiving Ceremony Tokong Kwan Tee Meow, Kanthan Baru, Perak
First opened in 1968, the Lord General Kwan Ti Temple in Kanthan Baru, Perak welcomed its 13th master (Sifu) on 1st January 2024. Master Loong (龐师傅) is only in his 40s, the youngest “sifu” in the temple’s history. This Taoist temple was renovated and expanded in 1973, thanks to the generous donation of a local philanthropist.
Master Loong, from Ipoh, shared that before assuming the position, he had only visited and prayed at this temple in Kanthan twice. However, a dream appeared to him, which featured a bridge (拱桥); an “arch bridge” which is what Kanthan is called in Chinese.
That was a calling for the sifu to accept the appointment as the temple’s master, and bring glory back to the establishment.
During the thanksgiving ceremony, Master Loong and his temple committee members gave thanks to the deities for a peaceful past year, and at the same time, prayed for positive blessings in the coming year.
After the prayer ritual, devotees were treated to a complimentary lunch that included roasted piglet, roasted duck, fried noodles, curry and more.
