A Very Merry Jazzy Christmas Concert

A group of talented musicians in Ipoh collaborated with their counterparts in Penang and held a mini orchestral concert during the Christmas season. These musicians who call themselves friends of PWW, raised RM6000 through this hour-long concert. The proceeds were wholly donated to PWW (Perak Women for Women Society).

PWW is a non-governmental organisation established twelve years ago with the objective to enhance the status and lives of women in Perak, regardless of race, religion or social background. The volunteers in the NGO also provide every possible means of assistance and support for women and their children who are victims of abuse and discrimination.

This is in addition to other activities, such as advocating mutual respect and gender equality in society. Hence, to manage the shelter for these victims, PWW requires at least RM12,000 annually.

Kicking off the evening of Christmas carols was a string quartet comprising Lau Jin Jie and Ng Heng Yi on the violin, Ng Heng Young on the viola as well as Liew Soon Yee on cello.

This was followed by a flute duet with cello, accompanied by the pianist, playing the upbeat ‘Por Una Cabeza’ by Carlos Gardel, and then ‘Regrets and Resolutions’ by Gary Schocker.

The other half of the programme was no less entertaining, with performances by the Banana Brass Quartet (BBQ), De Fusion Bond and finally, wrapped up by a Brass Ensemble, with the track “Joy to the World”.
