Upgrade of Ipoh Tourist Information Centre (ITIC)
The Perak state government through Tourism Perak has allocated RM120,000 to carry out upgrading works on the Ipoh Tourist Information Centre (ITIC), formerly known as the Perak State Tourism Information Centre (PTIC). In operation since 1995 and renamed to ITIC in 2010, ITIC is a collaboration between the Ipoh City Council and Tourism Perak to promote tourist destinations in Perak, especially its capital city.
The Perak state government deemed it necessary to upgrade ITIC as it had not undergone any improvement since 2015. With Perak tourism sector expanding with more products such as Kinta Valley National Geopark, HOHO Bus, as well as “Light and Sound” to be launched later this year, such an investment is only timely. This upgrade is expected to take three months, to be completed by 9th May, 2020. The renovation will make ITIC modern, tourist-friendly and of international standard.
The new ITIC is expected to exhibit and highlight tourism products in more detail, particularly on Geopark. There shall be four sections of exhibitions, namely Ipoh History and Facts, Ipoh City Mayor, Ipoh Heritage Trail and an introduction to Perak through the four main clusters as suggested by MoTAC (Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture) and Geopark.
There will also be tourist interaction areas and event space where handicraft workshops can be held. Moreover, in this age of digitalisation, the new ITIC will integrate Tourism Perak website and e-brochures. Visitors can scan the QR code displayed to obtain corresponding information.
In view that the ITIC building is temporarily closed for upgrading purposes, those who seek information on tourism in Perak may do so by visiting the WOW Shop along Jalan Sultan Yussof or the Tourism Perak office on Jalan Teh Hawa, Ipoh.
