Unveiling State-of-the-Art Kitchen to Offer World-Class Culinary Education
Crew Skills International Culinary School of Asia today unveiled a state-of-the-art training kitchen at its college in Ipoh. Conceptualised and designed by the school’s founder-cum-CEO, Mr. Suresh Supramanyam, who is a trained chef himself, in partnership with U Team Food Machinery (M) Sdn. Bhd., Crew Skills is one of the first culinary schools in Malaysia (and the only one in Perak), to be equipped with this high-tech kitchen that is being used in the hospitality industry.
With the training that graduates from Crew Skills obtained besides exposure to simulated real-world kitchen conditions, they have a competitive edge over their peers while they are already familiar with the same top-notch equipment that is utilised in kitchens of international hospitality brands, including cruise liners around the world.
This strategic technology partnership between Crew Skills and U Team has propelled the benchmark of the school further, raising the bar of culinary education through U Team’s expertise in custom-designed commercial kitchen equipment. Meeting the highest safety standards, the two parties worked closely to ensure that the kitchen workflow from food preparation to preservation and cooking is not only hazard-free but smooth too.
The state-of-the-art kitchen is divided into four sections:
Lab Kitchen
Fusion Kitchen
Western Kitchen
Commissary Kitchen
In addition to cooking and plating, students also learn the preservation of food quality, taste, colour and nutrients, as well as proper food storage. Pioneering the high-tech kitchen setup at a culinary school in Malaysia, Crew Skills students train on modern induction cookers plus electrical woks, similar to equipment in use onboard cruise ships. Imagine firing up the wok and achieving the desired heat and pressure in under ten seconds. It can even create the “wok hei” effect that we so love in our Char Kuey Teow.
Other advanced technology in modern kitchen equipment installed includes the Paco Jet, Blast Freezer and Rational Combi Oven. Also, catering to the new dynamics of learning, this redefined kitchen is able to handle remote classes and training.
As an award-winning culinary school, Crew Skills has always been about providing quality culinary training for students, and ensuring they are employed at suitable hospitality establishments upon graduation. What is more important is that such training is kept affordable, so that it is available to every child who is keen to pursue a career in the kitchen. With PTPTN Education Financing Scheme, enrolment with Crew Skills need not be challenging as the fees are taken care of. So highly acclaimed is Crew Skills that it comes as no surprise many of their students, equipped with this competitive edge, have secured their employment even before they graduate from the course.
Every year, some 200 students graduate from Crew Skills’ world-recognised triple certification programme from the United Kingdom, France and Australia. They are presented:
✅ Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Food Preparation and Cooking (Supervision) awarded by City & Guilds Institute of UK
✅ Australian Professional Chef Certificate 3 & 4 in Commercial Cookery – Western (Australian Qualification Framework) awarded by Culinary Solutions Australia
✅ World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) Professional Chef and Chef de Partie certificates (international kitchen passport)
Guaranteed job placement for graduates of Crew Skills Japanese Cuisine Programme
Under an exclusive agreement with Mid Asia Resources, graduates from the school’s Japanese Cuisine Programme with a pass in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N4 exam will be employed by hospitality establishments in Japan. As the only culinary school in the country to offer this authentic curriculum developed by Blue Magic Inc. in collaboration with the Japanese Culinary Academy based on guidelines from the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, graduates from Crew Skills are highly trained to meet the stringent requirements of Japan. Japanese language classes are run parallel with the Japanese Cuisine Programme for the convenience of students.
During the agreement signing ceremony this morning at Crew Skills between the school’s CEO Mr. Suresh Supramanyam and Mid Asia Resources Chief Executive Officer Dr. Chee Meng Chee, it was shared that a fresh graduate with some training background can earn a minimum of MYR6,000 per month in Japan.
