While considering a few places for Deevapali lunch, Star Mansion popped up in my mind. If you remember, I was there for its Halloween Night Party recently, which gave me an opportunity to view the 11-month-old restaurant.

And so, there we were on Tuesday, and had a most sumptuous feast! By the way, Star Mansion is a private residence turned café, restaurant and event space. It can appropriately cater to a wide range of diners, from couples on a rendezvous with its private dining room, or medium-sized groups in a sit-down dinner and also up to 500 pax at a garden party.

Flipping through its menu, I was impressed with the extensive cuisines, from local to Malay, Chinese, Western, Thai, French and Japanese; available for breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and even supper, if you so wish. There are easily over 200 items to pick and choose.

We enjoyed the cosy ambience so much that after savouring our mouth-watering lunch, we stayed on for afternoon tea. Time just flew by when we chit-chat non-stop. Here’s what we had, just a fraction of the signature dishes of Star Mansion…. there are more varieties, of course, if only our stomach could accommodate them!

Salted Egg Chicken Pizza
Among the seven pizza options, the variation that we chose was Salted Egg Chicken. Pizza is obviously common, but what caught our eye was the salted egg sauce. Salted egg is the food trend these days, and we wanted to taste its flavour in pizza. This thin crust pizza is filled with chicken cubes and flooded with salted egg sauce and mozzarella cheese, topped with chopped onions. One word: heavenly.

In the above photo are the two soups: Wild Mushroom (L) and Almond Pumpkin (R). We are happy to note that unlike many restos out there, the soups at Star Mansion are made from fresh ingredients, as opposed to canned soup bought off the shelf. Out of these two that we ordered: rich mushroom soup with fresh cream and fresh pumpkin with almond, my preference is mushroom.

5-Star Premium Seafood Nasi Lemak
If you have been following the Goodie Foodie posts on this blog, Nasi Lemak is a default dish that we order. Nasi Lemak is a Malaysian dish that all races relish. Listed under Malay cuisine at Star Mansion, I take my hat off to the chef for his unique plating.

The nasi (rice) are presented in five different colours: white, green, yellow, red and blue, without the use of artificial colouring. We had a good time guessing where the colours came from. Well, white is logically the original colour of rice, while green is from pandan, yellow from ginger, red from tomato, and finally, blue from butterfly pea flower (bunga telang).

The sambal in this Nasi Lemak is actually seafood sambal with squid and shrimp, which makes it stand out from the various Nasi Lemak dishes that we had tried at other cafés and restaurants. This dish also comes with two sticks of chicken satay. The chicken satay is out of this world…..which I will write about soon.

Ratatouille Rigatoni
This is a French-inspired meat-free pasta in generous pasta sauce. It is served with a skewer of zucchini, sweet pepper, eggplant and cherry tomato.

A little sourish due to its tomato, I opine this as a light dish.

Glass Noodle Salted Egg
A recommended item from the Thai cuisine menu, Glass Noodle Salted Egg is best consumed at the end of your meal due to its sourish flavour, which may not suit everyone.

This cold dish is served with red chilli, small chilli, onion, lemongrass, also garnished with coriander leaves and a sprinkle of crushed peanuts. On the side are salted eggs cut in quarters.

Lamb Shoulder with Mint Sauce
One of our main courses was this grilled marinated lamb shoulder, accompanied with sauted vegetables, and served on a bed of mashed potatoes. We opted for mint sauce to go with it.

Although I am not a red meat person, I took half of this dish because the lamb was so juicy and tender, and most importantly, did not have a gamey smell or taste, even without its accompanying mint sauce.

Okonomiyaki Chuka Idako with Wakame
From the Japanese menu, this is like a snack of cabbage, onion, and wheat flour, with chuka kurage, bonita flakes and wakame.

The sauce is a combination of mayonnaise and teriyaki sauce. Taste wise, it is slightly salty, therefore, best to be eaten alongside plain rice.

Unagi Rice Claypot
Here is a pot of rice to be shared by everyone at the table. There were 6 of us.

On top is unagi (freshwater eel) sprinkled with sesame seeds and rectangular chunks of tamago (egg), and finally, decorated with fresh lettuce. This special sauce is sweet by itself. When eaten together with rice and egg, it doesn’t taste overly sweet.

Chicken Satay
Do you like satay? There’s more to appreciate with these chunky chicken satay – no fat, non-oily and grilled to perfection.

Coat the meat thoroughly with its accompanying peanut sauce and eat it together with the fresh cubes of big onion and cucumber. If you’ve been searching for satay that’s not grilled till burnt, Star Mansion is the place to go.

Bread toast with local coffee
Bread is normally a simple afternoon snack for those who don’t want anything fanciful. It can never go wrong, especially when pairing with a cup of aromatic local coffee. Dunk it in or not? It’s your take.

3-layer Afternoon Tea Set of assorted homemade cakes
Inspired by our wonderful afternoon tea-time experience at Weil Hotel’s Tea Lounge, we eagerly ordered the three-layer afternoon tea set at Star Mansion. We should have ordered the 2-layer set, as we were already satiated.

Well, greed took the better of us when we saw how colourful the set was, filled with an assortment of in-house cakes! This tea set is newly introduced, so if you do not see it in the menu yet, ask for it. Wash down these delightful cakes with a cup of soothing tea or coffee.

See the amount of food that we had for lunch. It was an excellent idea that we picked items from the different cuisines, so that our fusion lunch was overall more flavourful.

As mentioned, Star Mansion is ideal for small, medium or large groups for social gatherings, cocktail parties or birthday celebrations. Couples may also enjoy the serenity it offers, what more in a romantic setting. Some bridal couples have chosen to hold their reception here, too.
