As ghosts, vampires, demons and evil spirits walked down the black runway, and ghoulish screams and shrieks filled the air, the audience kept a deadly silence so as not to attract any attention to themselves.
This was the scenario at Ipoh Parade on Sunday afternoon at the annual Halloween make-up competition organised by SUB International School of Beauty & Make-Up.
Almost 40 students took part, vying to be crowned the best in Perak. SUB earlier held similar competitions in Penang (8th Oct) and Kuala Lumpur (13th Oct). All three competitions shared the same theme of “Blossoms”.
This competition was divided into two categories: Flower Ghost and Bloody with Flower; each having its own sub-categories. The students had to come up with make-up that was appropriate to the category, along with matching costumes, presentation, music and story line.
I have to say that the students were really creative in their make-up skills as they successfully scared the living daylights out of us, including the judges! As you could imagine, the competition was extremely stiff.
Eventually, after two hours, it was time to announce the winners. The top prize went to Kong Wai Sim (Untangled Archangel Seraphiel). Her championship prize package included an 8-day / 7-night Shanghai Tour and trophy.
The first runner-up went to Lim Yoke Jie (Fallen Angel Maxpower) while third runner-up was Cheng Shu Yuen (Brutal Flower Princess).
There were also three sub-titles as listed below:
Most Creative Make-Up Award – Sim Lai Kuan (Terrorist Campus)
Best Costume Award – Lee Yee Hong (Blossom Messenger)
Popularity Award – Lim Chee Yen

Note: Halloween is observed annually on 31st October. It is a day when people light bonfires and wear scary costumes to ward off roaming spirits.
