“Talam Puncak Jabal Rahmah” is a platter that consists of specialities from three continents: Asian, Western and Middle Eastern. This platter is a course starter, good to be shared among four or five diners. The fact that it’s placed at the centre of the table (to be shared) promotes kindness, peace and goodwill, during this holy month of Ramadan, bringing loved ones together to enjoy the most significant meal of the day to break fast, irrespective of race and religion.

Laid out on a bed of salad are three kinds of meat: chicken, lamb and fish, with its respective preparation. As can be seen from the above photo, rice is also cooked in three varieties, with plain white rice at the top, followed by walnut briyani rice, and lentil (dhal) rice as base. For sauces, there are three types as well: tomato, capsicum and spices.

As mentioned, “Talam Puncak Jabal Rahmah” is a concoction crafted by the culinary team of Authentique Restaurant, led by Chef Sariman alongside Chef Azim. Therefore, diners can’t get this unique dish anywhere else except at Authentique, and only during this coming Ramadan as a starter for the restaurant’s buka puasa buffet menu.

When it comes to the buffet, there are more than 160 items served, to the delight of diners. As you can see, the main courses shared here, Rendang Tok, Rendang Kerang Merah, Ayam Panggang Pedas, Itik Goreng āla Peking, Bubur Lambuk Istimewa, Homemade Pasta, etc, are just part of the Ramadan Iftar menu. It’s just impossible to reveal everything here. Besides, food is best tasted, rather than viewed.

Some of you may not have heard about Authentique Restaurant yet. Opened for business just two weeks ago, it is one of three new F&B outlets owned by Shen Jai Education Group, as training platforms for their students from Kompas International College (KIC) and Shen Jai TVET College (SJTC). All three outlets are located within Ipoh Garden Square, formerly Ipoh Garden Plaza, in Ipoh Garden South. Besides Authentique Restaurant, the other two outlets are Taste Café as well as Bake & Take Patisserie.

Authentique serves Malay, Chinese and Indian cuisine to promote authentic Malaysian cuisine, hence its name. What’s amazing is that all the food, pastries plus beverages served here are prepared by students, under the guidance of Chef Azim and Chef Sariman, who handles operations. Each chef has over 30 years of culinary experience, including in 5 and 6-star hotels, locally and abroad.

There are currently about 20 practising students, from either one of these faculties: Food & Preparation, Pastry Production and F&B Service.

Food is life, and Shen Jai Education Group, which was established in 1959, is committed to train students to cultivate more qualified Malaysian chefs. Apart from sharing a passion for food with fellow foodies, these students are able to build confidence as they acquire real-world hands-on experience, and at the same time, receive unfiltered feedback from customers.
