PWW: Women in Love: A Night at the Opera
Ten members of the Perak Women for Women Society (PWW) in Ipoh, dressed in splendid traditional costumes, sang their hearts out on stage for the first time, all in the name of charity.
The women, all novice with nil experience, were joined in by 25 other singers, to form a choir to deliver five songs at the recent Perak Women for Women Society’s annual fundraising dinner. This year’s theme was Women in Love: A Night at the Opera.
This first part of the dinner performance included duets of Kanna and Jason, followed by Kanna with Kareem. Besides singing, dancing was performed by members of Geok Dance Centre & QiPao Association, who put up a stellar Chinese fairy dance.
The highlight of the evening was the second part of the stage show, the Cantonese opera by KSK Art Crew. Wearing heavy opera-style makeup and garbed in colourful costumes, the actors and actresses presented five acts in all, to the delight of the enthralled audience.
Women in Love: A Night at the Opera was sold to a full house, with more than 500 guests.
The successful event managed to raise some RM60,000, which will be utilised by PWW to conduct programmes that are aimed to defend women’s and children’s rights, promote awareness on violence against women and respect for gender equality, as well as counselling for women and children who are victims of abuse.
If you would like to donate to the cause of PWW, volunteer your time, or know of a woman who needs help, you may contact PWW at its official Facebook page.
