A project under Putrajaya Corporation (PPj), the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) and Putrajaya Community Cooperative (KKPPB), Putrajaya Urban Farming took off around Year 2008.

Although residents have cultivated idle land for years, with a structured programme, they are now able to achieve various objectives as a community, quickly and smoothly.

These objectives include food safety, preparation for climate change, community food production for local consumption, improve community spirit and physical health, among others.

At the same time, the Putrajaya Urban Farming project helps maximise the use of idle land, creating more green lungs within Putrajaya.

There are currently four areas being worked on, in P9G Precinct 9, Precinct 8, Putra Harmoni Precinct 9 and Precinct 14.

The delegates of Road to Agro Tourism 3rd Series were at Putra Harmoni Precinct 9 on Day 4 of the programme, to personally see for themselves the progress of the project.

While there was a workshop on urban farming going on for students from neighbourhood schools and their teachers, graduate students from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) were on hand to showcase their robots, currently being in Research and Development stage.

This automation project is known as development of an autonomous crop inspection mobile robot using openCV library, mainly used to inspect the condition of crops.

Autonomous mobile robot crop inspection is the combination of computer vision system and mobile robotic system, where the internal system uses image processing algorithm from openCV library and work on embedded PC called Raspberry Pi Model B+.

Automated crop inspection helps solve the problem of labour shortage and at the same time, improve on the quality of inspection by reducing human error.

  1. That is such a great program. Planting is so important, especially nowadays. I love seeing those people helping each other.

  2. This is a great program. Here in the Philippines, we also try to promote urban farming because it can help to save on food expenses. And also good for the environment.
