When visiting Labuan Island for a vacation, island hopping is one of the main activities, especially if you relish the sun, sand, sea and surf. The main island of Labuan is surrounded by six smaller ones, one of which is Pulau Rusukan Besar. ‘Pulau’ is the local word for island.
Visiting Pulau Rusukan Besar has to be arranged through a tour operator. The main company is Emma Glorious Tours Sdn. Bhd. Those who sign up for a package will be ferried in a passenger boat and collected at the same spot at a designated time according to a daily schedule.
What’s there to do on Pulau Rusukan Besar? Of course, there’s sunbathing, swimming, snorkelling and diving, for those who enjoy the sun and sea. There’s also massage services for vacationers who want a relaxing time under the shade.
The Marine Park Information Centre is located on the 14-hectare Pulau Rusukan Besar. Opening hours are from 9am to 4.30pm. Much information is shared through photos, posters and exhibits.
Actually, how much time does one need to allocate for a trip out to Pulau Rusukan Besar? Half a day is fair, if you go for snorkelling or other water activities.
Holidaymakers who wish to spend a longer time on the island may rent a chalet for the night. The shocking pink chalets are spacious and comfortable, as you can see from my photos.
So, if you do find yourself visiting Labuan one day, do not miss out the chance to head out to Pulau Rusukan Besar.
Visitors to Pulau Rusukan Besar also need to pay the following charges to Jabatan Taman Laut Malaysia:
*fishing is strictly prohibited on this island.
