PizzArt Pizza Trail, Ipoh
Five new pizza recipes, which were conceptualised and created by Anchor Food Professionals Hot Cooking Chefs, were launched in PizzArt Phase 2 recently, following the success of the company’s first PizzArt campaign last year, where also five equally unique pizza recipes were introduced.
While the first phase was more artisanal and European, this second phase was more of a trendy pizza match-up. The idea of infusing global food trends into local favourites is to recreate an excitement among consumers for pizzas. These pizza creations are definitely not the pizzas as we know them all this while.
Anchor Food Professionals’ 18 café partners spread evenly across Malaysia have since last month began offering these pizza creations, improvised to suit their respective menus, at the same time adhering to guidelines set by Anchor Food Professionals, particularly in the use of finest dairy products from Anchor which are fully imported from New Zealand.
The selection of business partners by Anchor Food Professionals was rather stringent. Firstly, the café is required to have a crew with advanced culinary skills as the pizza dough is made fresh; secondly, the kitchen has to be equipped with a proper pizza oven. Lastly, these café partners have to commit to offer these new pizza recipes on their menu for at least six months.
As part of the PizzArt Campaign, Anchor Food Professionals was in Ipoh to help create a buzz for their partners in the city, namely Food & Desire and Mustard Sandwich House. Yours truly was humbled to be invited to join in the Pizza Trail, and unwittingly roped in to participate in the Pizza Eating Competition! I did not win, of course, but what an experience it was!
Our first stop was Food & Desire, located at Medan Ipoh Bistari. Established by two former lecturers who have a desire for good food, hence the name, this non-halal fusion café is well known for its pork burgers. Food & Desire always gives off a sense of surprise because what’s on the menu is what the chef feels like cooking that day!
During the Pizza Trail, we were served PizzBurger and UltiMate Pizza, from the five inventive recipes by Anchor Food Professionals. Unlike the PizzBurger that was used in the Pizza Eating Competition, the meat-endowed, cheese-oozing chicken pizza-burger is actually served on a bed of curly fries.
The single-serving UltiMeat Pizza, on the other hand, is a gluten-free, all-meat pizza without a dough base. The meat is the base! We will never view pizza the same way again, I can assure you.
Other items on the menu that were introduced to us included Classic Chicken Chop, Grillicious Swiss Mushroom Pork Burger and The RockStar; all highly recommended.
The second stop of the Pizza Trail was Mustard Sandwich House, located along Jalan Chung Thye Phin in town. This 4-year-old café is popular for its breakfast variety, including pasta and sandwiches.
For the PizzArt event, we were introduced to UltiMate Pizza and Deep Cheese Pizza. There was also a Pizza Eating Challenge, where the four participants had to each wolf down two slices of UltiMeat Pizza in three minutes or less.
Just so you know, Mustard Sandwich House’s improvised UltiMate Pizza, also gluten-free and all-meat, is good for four pax. Thus, you can imagine what a huge challenge it was to clear the plate in that length of time! The 9+ inch pizza is normally served with 2 complimentary Soup of the Day and 2 Ice Lemon Tea.
The chefs at Mustard Sandwich House also tweaked the Deep Cheese Pizza recipe that was created by Anchor Food Professionals. The Deep Cheese Pizza here uses Honolulu Chicken, the same meat that is used to prepare its ever popular Honolulu Chicken Sandwich.
Other items on the menu that were recommended to us were Spicy Aglio Olio Prawns and Awesome Pig v2.0, a pork sandwich of crispy pork bacon strips with country roasted ham and fried egg, topped with cheesy sauce and served on toasted challah bread.
The two other pizza recipes by Anchor Food Professionals are Cheese Pretzza and Pizza Rolls. These may or may not be available in Ipoh over the next six months. Meanwhile, when you want to up your cheese level in pizzas, and not just ordinary pizzas, you can go to either Food & Desire or Mustard Sandwich House!
Oh! I almost forgot. Get rewarded for your cheesiness with a FREE PizzArt Pizza Cutter with every order from the PizzArt menu. There are six colours. Get one in your favourite colour or collect them all!
