This national indoor hockey tournament was held concurrently with the 21st Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2012. It has been named Piala Raja (Dato’ Seri) Ashman Shah, in memory of the second prince of HRH Sultan Azlan Shah, who passed away on 30th March, 2012 due to asthma attack, aged 53. He was known as the Prince of Sports.

A total of 14 men’s and 8 ladies’ teams participated in the tournament which stretched over three days. I only caught the championship matches for men’s and ladies’. I was rewarded with a hit on my thigh by the hockey ball as I was busy trying to take action photos whilst the game was in progress. Awwwww!
