Pesta Panjut Ipoh 2023

Ipoh Padang is lighted up with twinkling oil lamps since 15th April, and is ongoing until 24th April 2023 for Pesta Panjut (Panjut Festival). Ipoh City Mayor Y.Bhg. Dato’ Rumaizi bin Baharin@Md Daud officiated the lamp decoration competition among various sectors within the Ipoh City Council last evening.

The event was also attended by Y.Bhg. Clr. Dato’ Mazlan bin Abd Rahman, Head of WHIP MBI Council Member, Tourism Perak Chief Executive Officer Cik Nurmalis Musa, Ipoh City Council Senior Director, and Heads of Departments.

This Aidilfitri tradition of lighting up bamboo structures with oil lamps, known as Pesta Panjut, is in conjunction with Visit Ipoh Year 2023, and is included in the Perak Calendar of Events next year for Visit Perak Year 2024. Hosted at Ipoh Padang, Pesta Panjut is held for the first time in the city. The location was selected due to its strategic point within the tourism triangle of Ipoh Old Town.

With the theme of “Kampungku Halamanku”, there were four entries in this year’s Pesta Panjut, involving a total of 2,000 oil lamps, or 500 per decoration. The competition is expected to be more intense in the next edition, as it might be open to the public also.

Meanwhile, the Mayor encouraged the community to break their fast at the field to enjoy the sight of decorative lamps under the night sky, and to take photos of the surrounding scenery. The lamps will be lit from 7pm until midnight.

4th place - Technical Sector — 4th place – Technical Sector

At the end of his visit yesterday, the winners of Pesta Panjut Ipoh were decided. Taking first place, which came with a cash prize of RM400, was the Services Sector. Next was the Administration-cum-Operations which took home RM300. In third place was the Financial Sector, winning RM200 cash, and finally, the Technical Sector bagging RM100.

The Services sector comprises the Community Services Department, Information Technology Department, Corporate Planning Department, Local Central Unit, Building Commission Unit, plus Strategic Communications Unit.
