This Paloh Khoo Miu, or informally known as ‘Ipoh Chinese Tai Pak Koong Temple‘, is 140 years old this year. According to history, the resident God, Tai Pak Koong (God of Prosperity) was first brought to settle at this spot by the bank of Kinta River in 1872 from a temple in Hai Zhu Island, an island near Penang, by Leong Fi.

However, it was only after more than two decades, in 1894, that a proper temple was erected. Over the years, the temple has undergone a few renovations till what it is today. The festival of Tai Pak Koong (God of Prosperity) is celebrated grandly annually on the 16th day of the second lunar month in the Chinese calendar.

In the past, free medical consultation and medication were offered to the poor. Now, the temple offers free lunch to vagrants and beggars, with the generous support of sponsors. Also, the temple committee donated the land adjacent to the temple to the Perak Chinese Girls Primary School. Today, the school is known as SJK(C) Perak, Ipoh.
