P. Ramlee’s Birth House in Penang
This nipah-roofed house, located along a street now named Jalan P. Ramlee (formerly Caunter Hall), was where the late P. Ramlee (Ramli bin Puteh) was born on March 22, 1929.
Launched on December 13, 1991, by the then Minister of Culture, Arts & Tourism, Y.B. Dato’ Sabbaruddin Chik, it is now a public gallery of the legend.
Although restored, the structure, design, layout and many of the house’s elements have been retained.
Visitors to the house would be able to learn about P. Ramlee from the time he was born, his parents and his development as an all-round talent in those days.
I’d say, anyone who is a fan of the artiste should visit the house, and go through the old photographs on display as classics P. Ramlee and those of his third wife, Saloma, play in the background.
