Miss Manila Anie Uson Crowned Miss Chinese World 2023

It was a night of glitz and glamour, with an underlying excitement, at the Manhattan Ballroom of Berjaya Times Square Hotel on 20th May 2023. 17 beautiful ladies of Chinese descent, representing four countries, came together to vie for the prestigious Miss Chinese World 2023 title, a pageant that honours age-old Chinese tradition and culture with a modern touch.

It was an eagerly awaited event, as after a long hiatus since the last physical pageant in 2017, the 5th Miss Chinese World 2023 was finally held in Malaysia, with the grand finals on 20th May 2023, a significant date as “520” is homophonic to “I LOVE YOU” in Chinese.

After a gruelling 11 days of competition, culminating in the coronation night, the finalists at this fifth edition of Miss Chinese World 2023 showcased that they were more than gorgeous beauties who were also multitalented and well-versed advocates of Chinese values, matching the theme of the pageant, ‘The Beauty of Hearts, The World of Wisdom’.

During pageant week, the finalists were obligated to partake in tourism-related promotional activities and events. Among the popular Points of Interest visited within Malaysia’s capital city of Kuala Lumpur were Petaling Street, Kwai Chai Hong, Chan She Shu Yuen Clan Ancestral Hall Temple, plus Thean Hou Temple.

With the objective to promote and preserve Chinese culture, the finalists took to the stage to perform Chinese cultural dances composing the Dun Hwang ‘Fei Tian Dance’, with dances from the Soong and Ching Dynasties.

A specially introduced feature at this year’s pageant was the collaboration with MetaLive Sdn. Bhd., whereby a Special Voting Contest is being held via the Metaverse Platform. Ultimately, only one beauty could be Queen. A roar of cheers was heard when crowd favourite Miss Manila Anie Uson was declared the winner by the panel of seven distinguished judges. She was crowned by Miss Chinese World 2017 Yin Zhuo Qun from Shanghai, China. Anie Uson took home a cash prize of RM8,000, a crown, sash, trophy, and scholarship worth RM25,000 by Peninsula College, among other prizes.
