Lunching at Pâtisserie BoutiQue
As my family and I were waiting for our orders, customers continued to stream into Pâtisserie BoutiQue and it was filled to the brim with the lunch crowd before long. It could only mean one thing – either the food is good or the price is right, or both.
Pâtisserie BoutiQue is not a new café. It was opened for business in late 2013. In fact, it can be considered as one of the early Western-style cafés established in Kong Heng Square in the old section of Ipoh.
At the forefront of the French-themed “pâtisserie” (bakery in pastries) is Nicole Gan, 27, backed by three partners who are all below 40 years of age. The more amazing thing is that the petite Nicole, who holds a bachelor’s degree in communications, has no formal training in baking.
Still, graduating from being a home-baker, a skill honed since her primary school days, Nicole dishes up her special recipes from the kitchen of Pâtisserie BoutiQue effortlessly, as you can see from these photos I am sharing. As the name of the café suggests, Nicole’s speciality is in French pastries.
Therefore, everything created by Nicole is for pastry lovers like herself. Every item on the menu of Pâtisserie BoutiQue has been made with a dash of love and passion. Additionally, as a health-conscious person, Nicole insists on only using the finest and freshest ingredients for her creations, all of which are low in fat and sugar.
Nicole told me that as the head “chef” here, she has to be different to capture her diners’ taste buds with a clever combination of flavours coupled with fine brewed coffee.
Some of the signature items on the menu are Pasta, Baileys Tiramisu, Signature Chocolate Cake, German Chocolate Flourless Cake, Chocolate Meringue, Mix Fruit Cake, MusangKing, Cheesecake, among others.
It’s no surprise that I have heard from some friends that they are regulars here as Pâtisserie BoutiQue has a distinctive taste that couldn’t be found elsewhere in Ipoh.
That, and the fact Pâtisserie BoutiQue introduces new cakes almost on a daily basis, alongside the café’s signature pastries.
