With a mixture of traditional customs and traditions, as well as modern entertainment, it was certainly a celebration that would stay in our mind for a long time to come.

Family members came from near and far to honour the age-old tradition of togetherness, to participate in prosperity toss of yu sheng, and to be blessed by the God of Prosperity.

All the above were provided by Syeun Hotel Ipoh, alongside stage entertainment, as guests dined over the most scrumptious meal, to set a positive tempo for the Year of the Boar ahead.

For many of us, participating in a mega reunion such as this offered by Syeun Hotel Ipoh, celebrating with other families besides our own, has become sort of an annual ritual. We do look forward every year to the lively ambience that is not similarly matched by other venues.

Among the guests this year were Dato’ Haji Umar bin Haji Abu, the first Ipoh City Mayor and his wife, who both found the dishes served at Syeun to their taste. Kudos to the culinary team for their skills.

Our attention was also drawn to a table of guests from Shanghai, China. According to Ms Liu Li Ping, the prosperity toss (lou hei yu sheng) was an eye-opening experience for them, as it is not available in China. For your information, it was invented by a Chinese immigrant by the name of Loke Ching Fatt, back in the 1940s in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.

Indeed, the mix of traditional-cum–modern entertainment as showcased last evening was unique to these Chinese guests, too.
