I caught the 4pm matinee yesterday; that’s where these photos were taken. However, I only share non-critical scenes so as not to spoil the show for you.

Show time begins with Matilda, a story that centres on the protagonist, a precocious girl with a gift of telekenesis. Hated by her parents, who preferred a son, and loathed by her cruel authoritarian headmistress, Matilda finally found peace by way of friendship with her teacher.

The second part of the production is Wicked, about the unlikely friends of Elphaba the Green and Glinda the Popular, who end up being the Wicked Witch and Good Witch, respectively.

There are a few parallel takeaways from both shows, including the idiom “never judge a book by its cover”. Also, it teaches that although people are different, most of them pursue similar ideals. Third lesson is, don’t give up when the going gets tough. For in-depth details of the original shows, read Wikipedia: Matilda and Wicked.

Therefore, while being entertained by the talented cast, don’t forget that the noble objective of this year’s production is to raise funds for Soroptimist International Ipoh, as all nett proceeds go towards the NGO’s flagship long-term project Edufun Centre, and other projects that aim to educate, empower and enable opportunities for women and girls in the community.
