Although I can hardly tell one fish species from another, I always try to visit marine museums and aquariums wherever I go. So, recently, when I was invited to the Federal Territory of Labuan by Gaya Travel Magazine, hosted by Labuan Corporation and Labuan Tourism, I had a marvellous chance to drop by the Labuan Marine Museum.

The museum, situated inside Labuan International Sea Sports Complex, was opened to the public in January 2003. Specialising in marine life exhibition, this is the first marine museum of such a concept in Malaysia.

The highlight of the exhibits here is the 100-year-old, 42-foot-long skeleton of an Indian Fin whale, which was discovered on Sebatu Beach, Melaka.

Also, when you are there, try to catch the feeding times. You would be surprised, as I was, that many of these fishes have to be hand-fed! Can you imagine what laborious responsibility that is?
