Ketupat Weaving Workshop by Au Young
A series of activities and programmes have been lined up at AEON Kinta City as a run-up to Hari Raya Aidilfitri which is just around the corner.
One of the activities that I participated in by chance when I was there to shop recently was a ketupat weaving demonstration and workshop.
It wasn’t my first time to weave ketupat but I have forgotten how to do it and hence, when I picked up the colourful ribbons, I was all fingers again. Haih, this is what happens to people with no creative flair!
However, worry not! Au Young and his able assistants were on hand to patiently teach us how to weave in and out of the dual-coloured ribbons.
As you see, these are decorative ketupat for display purposes, fashioned after the Malay rice dumpling.
At the end of the 30-minute workshop, which attracted a cross section of shoppers, everyone could weave a ketupat; from the young to the old, male or female.
Anyone who would like to conduct a similar ketupat weaving demonstration and workshop, especially during the Hari Raya season, may contact Au Young himself. Details below:

i remember the last time i actually weave a ketupat was during high school time. im sure many people would miss workshops like this too!
It was a fun activity, hopefully my company can organize the similar activity for this coming raya celebration.
This is such a good workshop for non muslim to learn about ketupat weaving.
It is such a good idea to keep traditional art alive. Good thing is all can participate.
