Ipoh Media Members Feted at Media Flora Nite 2023

Organised by the Ipoh City Council’s Strategic Communications Unit, 80 media practitioners in Ipoh were feted at the Lost World of Tambun last night, in recognition of their cooperation and contribution to providing news coverage and publicity for the City Council over the past year.

The interesting event, themed “Media Flora Nite 2023”, was graced by Ipoh City Mayor Y.Bhg. Dato’ Rumaizi bin Baharin@Md Daud, Head of WHIP Ipoh City Councillor Y.Bhg. Tuan Wong Kar Keat, Ipoh City Councillor-cum-Chairman of the MBI Tourism Sub-Committee Y.Bhg. Datuk Ahmad Hariri bin Kamarudin, Ipoh City Council Senior Technical Director Tuan Azman bin Harun and President of Perak Media Sports & Welfare Club Encik Rosli Mansor.

In his speech, the mayor expressed hope that the positive relationship between the Ipoh City Council and the local media that has been established over the years continue to be long-lasting and assists in making Ipoh a Prosperous City.

“Thank you for your solid support, especially for programmes initiated by the Ipoh City Council, as well as highlighting issues related to the development of Ipoh and our efforts in driving the progress of the city and the wellbeing of her citizens. No one can deny the role of journalists and the media. The stories they bring to the public can shape the mind of the community. Their writings can make or break a country. Indeed it is true the saying that goes: the pen is mightier than the sword,” he added.

Acknowledging the rapid development of the global telecommunications network and the explosion of information technology, globalisation has exposed society to an information revolution that transcends borders. Coupled with the growing print, electronic and social media industries, the world wide web has also been recognised as an important source in the collection and dissemination of information.

In facing all the challenges today, which include communication and delivery of information to the mass media, it is fundamental that good cooperation between the local council and the media fraternity is fostered. This way, accurate information can be channelled to the people on one hand, while on the other, community insights can be gathered and issues rectified before they get out of hand.

During Media Flora Nite 2023, while attendees enjoyed a scrumptious meal, they were entertained by the MBI Kombo live band, as well as dance performances by Gema Warisan MBI. Lucky guests also walked home with attractive lucky draw prizes, which included gift hampers, home electrical appliances, plus Sunway Theme Parks accommodation packages. The event closed with an epic LWOT Flaming Percussion performance.
