Ipoh City Mayor Officiates the Opening of People’s Park Chang Jiang White Coffee
One of the pioneer producers of “Ipoh White Coffee”, Chang Jiang expanded its business to establish a Guangdong garden-style café at People’s Park. It was officiated by Ipoh City Mayor YBhg. Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin yesterday. On hand to welcome him were Mr Kong King Loong, managing director, and Ms Sam Foong, executive director of Chang Jiang White Coffee.
Since the 1970s, Chang Jiang has been producing and manufacturing coffee and tea powder, including the world-famous Ipoh white coffee. With a humble beginning at a coffee shop located along Jalan Pasir Putih in Ipoh, the company has lately launched a house-style café on Jalan Windsor and kopitiam-style café at Bangunan Casuarina.
With this latest venture, Chang Jiang hopes to introduce guests not only to the original taste of Ipoh white coffee but also to educate them on the production process and blending techniques of the brew. With a Guangdong garden-style theme, diners are exposed to lifestyle and food concepts synonymous with the Chinese community. This is especially important to the younger generation who may have lost touch with their roots.
People’s Park has been revamped to be a “Small Village Town’ where visitors are able to purchase local handicrafts and other homemade products as well as try out popular Malay and Indian food.
With Chang Jiang operating at People’s Park, the company intends to promote the entire village, rather than merely their own outlet. That’s giving back to the community.
