The 28th edition of Ipoh Car-Free Day on Sunday morning managed to attract some 7,000 visitors, from all walks of life. This March event was to mark International Women’s Day, International Day of Happiness, as well as World Down Syndrome Day.

YABhg. Datin Seri Saripah Zulkifli, wife of Perak Menteri Besar, flagged off Kayuhan Wanita, a 5.5km fun ride. The ladies-only ride saw participants clad in pink and purple colours.

Similar to previous months, various activities were lined up to promote a healthy lifestyle. They included archery, street soccer and yoga, among others.

According to Ipoh City Council Secretary Encik Mohd Zakuan Zakaria, the Ipoh Car-Free Day programme is expected to turn Ipoh into a low carbon city. It is also anticipated to enhance the Index of Happiness among Ipoh residents by creating awareness on the environment, health, security, history and legacy of Ipoh City.

  1. This is really a good initiative and fun as well. Should be a great morning in bandaraya Ipoh without cars in the morning. Clean air and no traffic jam indeed haha.. great 🙂

  2. we need more car free days all over Malaysia these days because the air quality is getting too polluted

  3. We really need more events like this and not just in Ipoh but in every town whenever possible! If it’s not once a week, at least once a month! =)

  4. So many interesting activity they had for this car free on international women’s day. This car free should do it monthly at KL too to help to reduce the pollution… Lolz

  5. This is an awesome initiative. Hope there will be more care-free day and use more eco-friendly means of transportation. I adore biking, good for my legs 🙂
