Ipoh Car-Free Day: Happy Chinese New Year
The 27th edition of Ipoh Car-Free Day was in celebration of the Lunar New Year. As such, a lion dance troupe was on hand to liven up the event, spreading good cheer and distributing mandarin oranges, which symbolise “gold”.
The month-end event attracted some 7,000 Ipoh residents, including representatives from various government and private agencies.
Many side activities were organised to promote green living and healthy lifestyle among community members. These included street soccer, cycling and Zumba.
According to Encik Mohd Zakuan Zakaria, Ipoh City Council Secretary, Ipoh Car-Free Day is expected to make Ipoh a low carbon city and attract residents to relax on Sunday mornings.
The programme is also anticipated to enhance the Index of Happiness among Ipoh residents by creating awareness on the environment, health, security, history and legacy of Ipoh City.
