Non-governmental agencies participated in the event alongside government agencies. They were Persatuan Daybreak, Persatuan Pemulihan Orang Cacat, Perpustakaan Negeri Perak, Mini Petting Zoo, Jabatan Kebudayaan & Kesenian Negeri Perak, Jabatan Bomba & Penyelamat, Hospital KPJ, MICA, Kumpulan Gendang Besar, Fast Track and Kelab Sukan DBI, just to name a few. Meanwhile, Ipoh City Watch created an awareness campaign for recycling, as they did, at every Car-Free Day.

The overwhelming response saw Ipoh folk taking the opportunity to enjoy the vehicle-free road by walking, jogging, cycling, skateboarding, rollerblading and even horse-riding! The Ipoh Car-Free Day Programme was held with the aim of achieving lower carbon footprint in the city as well as to provide additional, albeit temporary, recreational areas for the community.

  1. Car free days are such a great idea! They have them in KL from time to time but sometimes it just blocks all the essential roads which can be difficult, especially if you have to travel far. Nonetheless, its great cause it allows people to experience the city on food or bike.

  2. I love it when more and more of these campaigns are being organised as it helps to raise awareness over the importance of protecting our Mother Earth in every way possible.

  3. Car free day is a great way to reduce pollution. We have been having Car free day since last year once in awhile here.

  4. Car free days are a good reminder of how important clean air is. According to WHO World Health Organisation, 90% of people live in poor air environments. Car free days give us a chance to exercise more too. Keep up the great work in Ipoh.

  5. Healthy and fun even to encourage everyone exercise, mingle around and spend time with friends and family.

  6. We have this in KL once a month too and hopefully other states will start practicing it too. Horse riding on the streets of Ipoh? That’s something new!
