Hundreds of guests were invited to dinner to celebrate with Dato’ Dr Y.C. Lee, who was recently conferred with the ASCRS Honored Guest Award at the ASCRS Congress in Los Angeles, California, USA. ASCRS is the acronym for American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, of which Dato’ Dr Lee is a member.
Dato’ Dr. Y.C. Lee is the founder and Chairman of Lee Eye Centre in Ipoh and is the founding member of Asia Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He is the first Malaysian to receive the ASCRS Honored Guest Award. Think of this as a “Lifetime Achievement Award” in his field of ophthalmology.
The Honored Guest Award was established in 2004 by The American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery. This award honours a luminary whose life-long clinical, research or ophthalmic industry experience and accomplishments enable the recipient to offer a unique perspective on the current state of Ophthalmology and the healing arts.
This accolade was bestowed upon Dato’ Dr Y.C. Lee in recognition of his dedication and significant contribution to the advancement in the field of ophthalmology through his renowned surgical innovations in the management of complicated cataracts.
The dinner was hosted by Dato’ Dr Y.C. Lee’s children, Wendy and Dr Lee Mun Wai, who is also an ophthalmologist. Dr Lee is the Medical Director of Lee Eye Centre. Paying tribute to his father in his speech, Dr Lee Mun Wai said that the three main principles that continued to guide his father as a person and an ophthalmologist are: Discipline, Passion and Critical thinking.
