IHI 2015 CNY Celebration
The annual Chinese New Year celebration at Impiana Hotel Ipoh on the third day of the Lunar New Year was once again the highlight of the season for staff and guests of the hotel.
It began with an energetic performance by a pair of lions, followed by a dragon, presented by world champion traditional lion and dragon dance troupe, Ipoh Chin Woo.
This year, the lions visited every nook and corner of ground and first floors of the hotel, including its basement.
It is believed that the din created by the loud banging of drums and clashes of cymbals, plus the presence of the ferocious lions would chase away any evil spirit that dare to lurk around.
The lighting up of the 108-foot pink firecrackers was an upgrade from previous years, which was only 88 feet long.
Guests were then invited to partake in the “lou hei” (prosperity toss) of a specially prepared giant yusheng, decorated with the Chinese character for “goat” to usher in the Year of the Ram.
The half-day celebration wrapped up with an hour-long Chinese orchestra performance by Simson Chinese Orchestra. The four-piece orchestra comprising the Yangqing, Erhu, Dizi and GuZheng, played Chinese New Year festive music.
