How to Make Kuih Bahulu
Kuih Bahulu is one of my family’s favourite snacks. I didn’t know that it is also one of the specialities of the Bangkahulu tribe until I visited Kuala Kubu Bharu as part of the Eat.Travel. Write Selangor International Culinary Adventure 3.0 delegation.
Kuih Bahulu is one of them, the other is kuih tat Bengkulu. I am sure there are more for me to explore.
I’ve seen how kuih bahulu were made previously from Bahulu Classiq‘s factory in Hulu Langat, Selangor. It is not much different except that this was a demonstration so the kuih were baked on a smaller scale.
According to baker Ismail, for every one kilogramme of eggs, one has to use one kilogramme of sugar plus 850 grammes of flour.
Mix this batter for about twenty minutes until it is light and fluffy, then add in a small amount of Sunquick orange juice.
Meanwhile, oil the mould and heat it in the oven before the batter is poured into the mould. Place the mould with batter into the oven to be baked.
Other flavours of kuih bahulu available from baker Ismail are chocolate and coffee. I love the chocolate-flavoured variety!
Contact Ismail to place your order or drop by at his retail shop to purchase.
