Pursuing this blog that takes me out of town frequently, it is rare that I get to sit down for a meal with the family. I always tell myself that I will arrange something but the days turn into months in the blink of an eye. So, before the year comes to a close, this is a promise that I must fulfil.

Therefore, while the rest of the world is enjoying the year-end holidays, this is a good time for me to arrange a family meal. My requirements were simple. I wasn’t merely looking for delicious food, after all I live in Ipoh and we are well known for our tasty fare, I also wanted a venue that would be memorable.

Vintage Café Ipoh came to mind. I’ve known about them since their opening in July 2016. Just never found the time or occasion to dine there. Today, I decided that, heck, we’d just brave the traffic congestion of Ipoh Old Town! What an excellent decision that was!

Vintage Café Ipoh is located in the heart of Ipoh Old Town. For this reason, the owners (Davin and Mac) decided to capture the essence of the neighbourhood in their café, hence its name “Vintage”.

Setting foot into the café, one would indeed be taken back to the 1940s, when the building was constructed. The owners had decided to keep the structure as original as possible, in order to maintain the theme and ambience.

Vintage Café Ipoh serves an extensive Western fusion cuisine, fine tuned to suit local taste buds. Today being my first visit, I only requested for the chef’s signature dishes. We’d have plenty of time to explore the rest of the menu on other occasions.

Thus, the dishes you see here comes highly recommended by Chef Mac. We had four main courses: Chicken Bolognese, Vintage-Style Fish & Chips, Fried Chicken Waffle Sandwich, and Savoury Crêpe Wrap with Chicken Tender. I can’t say for sure which dish is better than the other, but do make Fried Chicken Waffle Sandwich and Savoury Crêpe Wrap your preference.

As for the desserts, they are made fresh daily in-house, so there is no doubt of buying cakes that have been on the shelf for a week. Again, we had four dessert items, just the right amount to appease my sweet tooth. I am drooling again just looking at my own photos. LOL

On the upper floor of the café is its guesthouse. Just like the café, it is a blend of the old and the new, to maintain its charm, yet to be practical for today’s modern living. It has two bedrooms: one King and one Queen.

Work on the attic is in progress at the moment, and when it is ready (tentatively before Chinese New Year 2018), it can cater to another six guests.
