Fast becoming one of the must-visit attractions offered in Penang, Entopia by Penang Butterfly Farm in Teluk Bahang is a tropical sanctuary not only for butterflies but also many other planet’s denizens.

Previously known simply as Penang Butterfly Farm, which was opened to the public in March 1986, the farm underwent a rebranding exercise (or rebirth) 1+ year ago, and is now known as “Entopia”.

Penang Butterfly Farm was the brainchild of Mr. David Goh and the business was passed down to his son, Joseph in 2006. It was Joseph’s idea to transform it.

Indeed, Entopia is more than a butterfly farm. It is a “Nature Learning Destination”, a classroom beyond walls. Besides merely visiting and checking out the butterflies, there are quite a number of Entopia Learning Programmes suitable for people of all ages.

One of the best activities that I personally participated in was the opportunity to release a newly emerged butterfly into the sky, in a session called “Vita Nova”, Italian for “new life”.

Nonetheless, let me remind you that Entopia is a premium destination in Penang, even though in general, the island is highly commercialised for tourists.

  1. I was about to visit this place last year but the road was closed down and we are asked to take boat to reach there.. so end up did not visit… 🙁

  2. Looks like there’s another place for me to visit when I go to Penang soon. That Pandora Forest looks very interesting – or maybe I’m just attracted to the lighting. 🙂

  3. I guess this is a good place for kids to know more about various butterflies and insects.

  4. A great place to bring the family and learn together. I bet most adults also don’t have enough knowledge about butterflies (me included)

  5. This looks beautiful, I am sure children would enjoy their trip here to learn about butterflies
