The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride 2017 (Ipoh)
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride or better known as DGR is a charity event to create awareness on prostate cancer and mental health among men, as well as to raise funds for needy patients of these ailments.
This international programme began in Australia in 2012. Over the years, the event has been gradually adopted by 64 other global cities, including those in Malaysia: Ipoh, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Seremban, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Miri and Labuan.
This year’s charity event in Ipoh, organised for the first time in the city in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2017, attracted about 300 motorcyclists dressed in dapper suits and various fine attire, ride their favourite motorcycles, ranging from vintage Vespas to cruiser bikes.
Organised by Throttle Riot and the British Silver Classic Motorcycle Club (PBMC), DGR 2017 (Ipoh) managed to raise almost RM15,000 to be donated to The Movember Foundation.
According to programme coordinator Ezzad Elias, DGR 2017 (Ipoh) saw bikers ride in a 23km convoy. The participants were flagged off at Bulatan Amanjaya and made stops at four checkpoints of major landmarks: Gunung Lang, Karat Café, Ipoh Railway Station and final stop, M Roof Hotel & Residences. The convoy was assisted by traffic police and accompanied by the Malaysian Civil Defence Department (JPAM).
Ezzad said, “In addition to the strong participation by motorcyclists from local and foreign motorcycle clubs, it was heartening to receive support from celebrities such as Wak Doyok, Karl Syafiq and JD Raja Lawak.”
Worldwide, DGR 2017 attracted some 90,000 riders and raised a total of USD4,285,236 (RM17.9 million). Major sponsors of the event were Triumph Motorcycles, Zenith Watches and Hedon Helmets.

I do not quite like bikes, but I have to admit that there is an aura or something fascinating about a group of gentlemen arriving on big bikes or expensive bikes…
