Dim Sum is for Sunday, and Every Day
When I was growing up, indulging in dim sum was reserved for Sunday mornings only. That was a weekend family day when everyone was able to spare long hours savouring the hot-off-the-steamer tiny bite-sized portions of handcrafted dim sum over freshly brewed Chinese tea.
Since leaving school, it has been quite a few years since I managed to join my family on our Sunday morning ritual, as work and routine take over.
The good news is that dim sum breakfast is no longer such a luxury as it was back then, in terms of time and pricing.
Therefore, with the on-going 20% early bird discount on dim sum at WEIL Hotel’s Yuk Sou Hin 玉寿轩 Chinese restaurant, we didn’t take long to arrange a dim sum meal.
Yuk Sou Hin 玉寿轩 offers more than 30 items on its dim sum selection, priced from RM7 to RM12 per basket. Despite its competitive pricing, patrons are assured of quality cuisine, where the ingredients used are whole, for example, whole prawns.
Yuk Sou Hin 玉寿轩 is a pork-free and Muslim-friendly restaurant. Even without pork, the small steaming baskets of dim sum keep to the authenticity of Hong Kong recipes of generations ago, in every single bite.
Dining on dim sum is no longer reserved for Sundays as with this affordable price, it can be a daily occasion, synonymous with ‘yum cha’ in Hong Kong.
While being attracted by the wholesome aroma of dim sum in the classy ambience of Yuk Sou Hin 玉寿轩, why not spend some time at the restaurant to lunch on healthy Chinese-style cooking from the à la carte menu?
That was exactly what we did, ordering the Signature Smoked Duck with Lychee Wood (1/4 bird), Stir-fried Asparagus, fresh Lily Buds with White Truffle Oil, and Flat Noodles plus Crispy Vermicelli with Seafood in thick Egg Gravy.
We wrapped up our meal with a signature dessert of Chilled Avocado Puree with Sago.
Yuk Sou Hin 玉寿轩 is currently running a promotion on an 8-course set lunch for a minimum of two persons, priced at only RM33.80 /pax, complete with Herbal Tea serving.
Among the signature dishes are Crispy Fried Eel Roll with Thousand Island Sauce, Stir-fried Asparagus, Fresh Lily Buds with White Truffle Oil, Seafood Fried Rice with Vegetable Puree and Crisp Rice.
By the way, WEIL Hotel conducts interesting biweekly workshops at The Academy (adjacent to Yuk Sou Hin 玉寿轩), where participants can pick up a new skill, such as cooking chicken rendang.
During this hands-on workshop recently, we were taught by the WEIL Hotel team of chefs who besides imparted their skills, also shared their secret recipe with us.
With this new skill, I can prepare hotel-standard chicken rendang at home; evidently, it takes a lot of practice. If you would like to take part in such fun workshops and learn something new, Like and Follow WEIL Hotel Facebook Page for the latest updates.
