Cosy Home Dining Experience @ 8 House Café

Decided to go for a quick lunch during a hectic workweek and our choice was 8 House Café, a new eatery just opened for business some two weeks ago. 8 House Café has repurposed an old residence. It is located at a secluded Greentown neighbourhood just behind Kim House Tiling & Sanitary and opposite Mike’s Place.

Having come across opening promotions of the café on Facebook, I was concerned that only light meals are served. Nonetheless, we took a “gamble” and went there for lunch. 8 House Café does have a lunch menu, albeit a modest one.

There are just five rice dishes to select from. Well, no need to crack our head over what to eat. We just ordered one of each! Smart.

So, you can see from these food photos, all are signature dishes that come highly recommended by the chef. I was informed that in due time, the menu will be expanded to include more main courses.

The dishes that we had for lunch were: Mushroom Chicken, Black Pepper Chicken, Teriyaki Chicken, Curry Chicken all to go with rice, as well as Nasi Lemak Curry Chicken.

As you can see from these photos, the chicken with rice dishes were all presented in the same style, on a bed of lettuce, accompanied by broccoli and carrot strips.

Aesthetically, they may look similar, but the different chicken flavours were indelible, and the meat juicy and tender. Our meal was more relishable because the chicken drumsticks were deboned.

Meanwhile, the Nasi Lemak rice is a combination of rice cooked in pandan (screwpine) and separately in bunga telang (butterfly pea), hence the platter appears more colourful, alongside groundnuts, fried anchovies, achar, half a hard boiled egg, slices of cucumber, and a dollop of sambal. This Nasi Lemak is indeed a crowd-puller and an all-day favourite.

Dining at the café is like eating at home. The ambience is relaxing and cosy, whether you opt for indoor or outdoor. It can accommodate some 150 pax and makes a suitable venue for private functions. For smaller parties, book one of the three VIP rooms, or the Conference Room for more serious discussions.

Next month, the upper floor will open to overnight guests, as homestay. I was surprised that there are 12 bedrooms altogether!
