Bulan Puasa this year begins on the 23rd of April. That’s just slightly over a month away. Although I do not celebrate Ramadhan or Hari Raya, one of the things that I look forward to during this festivity is the opportunity to indulge in the best of traditional Malay cuisine, which I rarely have the occasion to on ordinary days.

Yesterday, premier Ipoh city hotel, Syeun, revealed their buka puasa fare, which I had the chance to try out, and readily share my experience here with you. If you follow emily2u.com blog, you will know that this hotel is prominently featured over the years. Whether it’s Chinese or Malay cuisine, you are assured of a certain standard when it comes to its taste.

Headed by Sous Chefs Nizam Huri and Fareiz Abd Aziz with decades of experience in the kitchen between them, this year’s Syeun Hotel’s Ramadhan buffet theme is “Citarasa Warisan”. From its name, you can expect to get a taste of traditional Malay cuisine that transports you back to the old days of sharing a meal with the extended family in your grandparents’ welcoming kampung house.

Recapture the ambience of Ramadhan in your kampung when you buka puasa with your nearest and dearest at Syeun Hotel over these delicious dishes. There are a total of six menus available on daily rotation basis; each menu has approximately a hundred different food and beverage items to appease your appetite.

Every evening, the main courses will include fish, prawns, lamb, beef and vegetables, prepared in different styles. Some of the signature items that I can tell at the top of my head are Daging Rendang Tok, Laksa Sarang, Sambal Udang and Grilled Lamb. The photos shared in this post are not from a single menu, but a special highlight of some highly recommended dishes from all six menus.
