Blood Donation Drive & Organ Pledge Campaign: 120 Pints Received in 5 Hours

With the enthusiastic response from members of the public, the Blood Donation Drive & Organ Pledge Campaign on Sunday, 12th March 2023, jointly organised by Persatuan Penganut Ibu Naga Perak and Persatuan Keturunan Kwong Siew Perak (Bahagian Wanita) was a smashing success.

Held at AEON Mall Station 18 in Ipoh, a total of 120 pints of blood were collected within five hours, surpassing the target of 100 pints. Every pint of blood saves three lives, as the transfusable components that can be derived from the donated blood are red cells, plasma, platelets, cryoprecipitated AHF (cryo), and granulocytes. All blood received was handed over to the Blood Bank of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) Ipoh.

Officiating the activity, Perak State Communication, Multimedia and Non-Governmental Organisations Executive Councillor YB Tuan Mohd Azlan Helmi thanked the organisers for hosting the meaningful event. “It is everyone’s shared responsibility to keep the blood bank fully stocked up as the blood supply generally declines every month of Ramadan, with the decrease in blood donations during this time of the year,” he added.

During the opening ceremony, Persatuan Penganut Ibu Naga Perak and Persatuan Keturunan Kwong Siew Perak (Bahagian Wanita) passed the baton to Perak Kwang Tung Association (Youth Section) to organise the 3rd edition of a similar blood donation drive. The stewardship was received by Mr Jeremy Lee on behalf of the new organising committee.
