Announcement: Sharpened Word: A Million Stars, A Million Hopes To Women’s Empowerment

As March coincides with International Women’s Day, Sharpened Word is collaborating with the Perak Women for Women Society (PWW) to bring in two prominent female writers to the community.

PWW, together with Soroptimist International, had started A Million Stars to End Violence project two years ago with the objective to educate and raise public awareness on domestic violence, bullying and racism. By the end of last year, and together with UiTM Seri Iskandar, PWW had set up A Million Stars Gallery at PWW office and fittingly, this March event will be hosted there.

Sharpened Word is honoured to feature Saras Manickam who was the recipient of DK Dutt Memorial Award for Literary Excellence in 2017. Last year, her short story titled “My Mother Pattu” won the fiercely competitive Commonwealth Short Story Contest for the Asia region. She is presently working on compiling her series of short stories for publication.

Then, there’s Philippine-born Michelle Ayon Navajas who is currently residing in Malaysia. Michelle authored the book “After – Rain Skies: A Million Stars” for PWW during their Million Stars campaign.

Graduated with a Master of Education majoring in English in the Philippines, Michelle was a former college professor, teaching literature, speech & oral communication, creative writing, drama and theatre arts.

Both Saras and Michelle are active in their writing profession and work as freelance creative writers.

Michelle passionately blogs at www.michnavs.wordpress.com, where you can find her prose and poetry on love, life, motherhood and her advocacy on abuse and violence.
